Happy Bonfire Night
As the skies start to sparkle and the smell of bonfires fills the air, Guy Fawkes Night is just around the corner! It’s a wonderful time to get together with friends and family, enjoy the fireworks, and mark a great British tradition, but it’s also important to keep things safe and considerate for everyone in our community.
If you’re planning to celebrate this weekend (or over the next couple of weeks), here are a few friendly reminders:
Be safe with fireworks and bonfires - Only buy fireworks from licensed sellers, follow the instructions carefully, and keep a safe distance once they’re lit. Always supervise children and pets, and never return to a lit firework.
Think of pets and wildlife - Many animals find fireworks frightening. Try to let neighbours know if you’re planning a display so they can keep their pets indoors and comfortable.
Be mindful of others - Not everyone enjoys loud bangs and bright flashes. For some people, especially those with sensory sensitivities, PTSD, or anxiety, fireworks can be distressing. Consider attending an organised display or using quieter fireworks to keep things fun for all.
Wrap up warm and enjoy responsibly - If you’re heading out, don’t forget your hat, gloves, and maybe a flask of something hot, it’s November, after all!
Let’s make this Bonfire season one that everyone can enjoy safely and considerately. Have fun, look after one another, and keep our community glowing for all the right reasons.
